Kiri Rose's Postpartum Unfiltered
So excited to be part of this and well-done team for making it a safe space/platform to be heard.
Here is my 5c haha hope it resonates with some mammas out there!
Ah yes - the P word
Postpartum….woah what a journey
I was lucky enough to have my village around me to tell me “don’t forget that postpartum is just as important and I wish someone had told me about it.” Clearly it’s something that gets put aside or “I’ll focus on it later” ~ we focus on our little squishies and mummy gets left behind. Our bodies are healing too. Our mind, body and soul need that love and care to recover and provide for our little one(s).
My main postpartum journey (currently 6 weeks PP ~ aside from the night sweats, hormonal changes, tiredness, sore nipples~ consisted of adjusting to my c-section scar and understanding how to let it heal layer by layer and accept that it’s a new addition to my body. The process of accepting it after the plasters came off was definitely a process. I remember standing in front of the mirror, terrified to touch it. It took me a good 15mins (tears and sweating from nervousness) to feel it, embrace it and remind myself that this is my superpower scar. This scar represents the life I created came out of this incision.
I used my Viva La Vulva Scar Oil to gently massage it and familiarise myself with each and every part of it. From the scar tissue build up in certain places, where I still felt some discomfort that made me wince, the numbness at the top of the scar, whether there was any referred nerve discomfort and how to alleviate it……to when can I go and get my wax done LOL
Doing this has created a space where I feel safe, empowered and love my body even more. So Queen mamas you definitely got this! Everyone’s journey is so unique and special. I obviously don’t know every mamma out there LOL but I do know I’m proud of you and I’m sending you all the love and hugs every step of the way!
