Renee Maylon - Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Renee Maylon - Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Renee, please tell us a bit about your work:

Working with women is something that I am very passionate about. I am first and foremost a musculoskeletal / sports Physiotherapist, however, my journey as a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist began in London where I spent nearly 6 years working at Six Physio, and part time in my final year at UCLH and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals in the women’s health teams. In the UK I gained qualifications in rehabilitation, pilates, acupuncture/dry needling with the AACP and women's health (urogynaecological and obstetric management) with the POGP (Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy) association. I was seeing women with pregnancy related issues, pelvic and sexual pain, postpartum recovery, rectus abdominis diastasis rehabilitation, pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence, prolapse, and overactive bladder. Following my time in the UK, I spent 5 years in Dubai at Up and Running Integrated Medical Centre, a multidisciplinary private clinic in Dubai.  My roles included Senior Women’s Health, Musculoskeletal and Clinical Pilates Physiotherapist; Team Manager and Lead for the Women's Health and Clinical Pilates Services; and Corporate Wellness Service Lead.

I have also found interest in learning Osteopathic techniques, mainly for women's & pelvic health, since working in London and the Middle East through mentoring, workshops, courses abroad, and also courses with the Molinari Institute in London and Greece.

I have been working back in New Zealand again since September 2020 at Auckland Physiotherapy in Newmarket, and also from my home clinic, Haven Wellness, on the North Shore, and in the community.

My goal is to ensure women feel supported, educated and empowered on their journey, with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. I would love to see increased awareness and education so that every woman receives the support she needs. This should also include support not only for her managing the little one, but also for her mental health, and other holistic care. If you have never seen a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist before, it is never too late! Even if it is years postpartum!

  • Stana's Postpartum Unfiltered

    Stana's Postpartum Unfiltered

“I gave myself all the permission I had to rest and take it easy.
Letting others do simple things like emptying the dishwasher or hanging out the washing was mentally hard but I truly believe that rest set up a strong foundation for the rest of my first year postpartum.”

Stana shares with us her honest experience recovering from a belly birth, with scar massage, unexpected sensitivities, baby-wearing aches, and the strength it took to actually stop and let herself heal.

If you're in the thick of it or reflecting on your own journey, her story is a powerful reminder: rest is not a luxury, it’s essential.

    Winnie's Postpartum Unfiltered

I'm much better at embracing my body after my 2nd baby. Just letting go of a lot of expectations and trying to enjoy the smaller things and not forcing myself to do anything just to conform to society.

  • Amber's Postpartum Unfiltered

    Amber's Postpartum Unfiltered

The worst thing about the postpartum days for me was the wondering when I’d ever get “Amber” back. The best part was finally accepting that “Amber” is everything she always was, but now she’s also a mother - which is the hardest/greatest/most terrifying adventure she’s been on yet..
