Kate Bird - Lactation Consultant, Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse & Mama to 3 Girls - Little Bird Lactation

Hello, I’m Kate, a registered neonatal intensive care nurse, internationally board-certified lactation consultant, and mum to three wild but wonderful girls. I’ve worked in healthcare for over a decade, supporting families through some of the most vulnerable moments of newborn life. My passion lies in helping parents feel confident and empowered in feeding their babies, without the guilt, pressure, or outside noise.

Our parenting journey began with our first daughter, and despite my years of experience in neonatal care and lactation, I quickly realised that nothing truly prepares you for the reality of feeding a baby. The overwhelming advice, conflicting opinions, and societal expectations can make an already challenging time even harder. That’s why I’m committed to cutting through the noise and making feeding real, stripping away the pressure and focusing on what actually works for you and your baby.

My top 3 tips for navigating feeding:

💖 Drown out the noise – Everyone has an opinion, but the only one that truly matters is yours.
💖 Find your village – Support makes all the difference, whether it’s a lactation consultant, a friend, or an online community.
💖 Education! - You don't know what you don't know, but entering your feeding journey with some solid education on the basics can help you avoid nipple damage, supply and positioning problems.

I’m here to help parents feel informed, supported, and proud of how they feed their little ones—without judgment or unrealistic expectations. So, if you’re navigating feeding challenges, know that you’re not alone. Let’s figure it out together, minus the pressure, plus a few laughs along the way.

“I gave myself all the permission I had to rest and take it easy.
Letting others do simple things like emptying the dishwasher or hanging out the washing was mentally hard but I truly believe that rest set up a strong foundation for the rest of my first year postpartum.”

Stana shares with us her honest experience recovering from a belly birth, with scar massage, unexpected sensitivities, baby-wearing aches, and the strength it took to actually stop and let herself heal.

If you're in the thick of it or reflecting on your own journey, her story is a powerful reminder: rest is not a luxury, it’s essential.

I'm much better at embracing my body after my 2nd baby. Just letting go of a lot of expectations and trying to enjoy the smaller things and not forcing myself to do anything just to conform to society.

    Amber's Postpartum Unfiltered

The worst thing about the postpartum days for me was the wondering when I’d ever get “Amber” back. The best part was finally accepting that “Amber” is everything she always was, but now she’s also a mother - which is the hardest/greatest/most terrifying adventure she’s been on yet..
