10 Tips to Keep Cool During a Summer Pregnancy
Staying cool through the hot summer months is essential when you’re pregnant—for both your comfort and well-being. Here are 10 practical ways to help you stay comfortable and beat the heat!
1. Drink Up
Hydration is key to staying cool and keeping your body balanced during summer. Carry a water bottle with you and aim to drink 3-4 liters of water a day. To keep things interesting, try infusing your water with fruits high in water content like watermelon, cucumber, or orange slices. The extra boost of hydration and flavor can make drinking water feel like a treat!
2. Get Wet
Take advantage of the cooling power of water. Go for a swim, take refreshing showers, or use a paddling pool to bring down your body temperature. Cooling towels, your postpartum ice packs, or a simple misting spray can be refreshing too. Water is nature’s perfect cooling tool!
3. Love Your Feet
Swelling is common in pregnancy, especially in the summer heat. Elevate your feet whenever possible to encourage circulation and reduce swelling. Use our Ice Packs on your feet too! A refreshing foot soak with cool water and our Relaxing Pregnancy Bath Soak will do wonders! A few drops of peppermint oil can also feel soothing and cool.
4. Get Naked (or Close to It)
Loose, breathable clothing is your best friend. Cotton and linen are ideal, as they allow airflow and help you stay comfortable. When lounging at home, go for light, loose layers—or skip the pants altogether!
5. Shady Lady
Pregnancy makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. When you’re outside, wear sunblock, opt for shady spots, and avoid direct exposure during peak hours (10 am - 4 pm). Sun hats and light shawls can add protection and keep you cool.
6. Time Your Activities
Plan activities around the cooler parts of the day, like early mornings or late evenings. And if you need to get things done, take it easy during the hottest hours.
7. Cool Treats
Stock your freezer with frozen goodies. Ice blocks, smoothies, and nutritious popsicles can be both refreshing and nutritious. Blend frozen fruit, spinach, or bananas into a smoothie for a quick cool-down. Citrus or ginger ice lollies can even help with morning sickness.
8. Sleepy Time
A cool shower before bed can work wonders. For restful sleep, create a cool sleeping environment by using light bedding and wearing loose, breathable clothes—or going without. Keeping the temperature comfortable will help you rest through the night.
9. Use Cooling Products
